Increased Security Measures 2011
Submitted by Irene Kraus on Sun, 01/30/2011 - 6:22pm
Due to increasing hacker attempts a few changes have been made. For one thing, someone now has a limited number of login attempts. Failure to login within the attempts allowed will result in an automated block to that account that can only be reversed by those in management roles. The login process has been altered to provide feedback as to how many more attempts can be made prior to an account becoming blocked.

Event Cancellations
Submitted by Irene Kraus on Tue, 01/11/2011 - 6:56am
Our policy for scheduled events that are canceled, postponed, or rescheduled for any reason is to first alter the published notice found on this site. A decision, for example, to cancel an event due to bad weather is usually made several hours in advance. This allows time for notices to be sent to all subscribed as established within their Profile.

READ ME FIRST!!!
Submitted by Irene Kraus on Sun, 04/04/2010 - 6:15pm
This section of our site is dedicated to breaking news about CEBUG and discussion between members and nonmembers on a variety of topics. Only officers of CEBUG may publish notices within this section. Membership within CEBUG is not a requirement for participation, although registration and validation of an e-mail address must occur first. This is an integral aspect of our opt-in process to confirm interest, and in support of our Privacy guidelines.

Review Copy Reminders
Submitted by Irene Kraus on Sat, 04/14/2012 - 4:30pm
A quick reminder for all of our CEBUG members in that O'Reilly is now publishing a monthly newsletter about Microsoft Press books in addition to their own regular newsletter. These are posted in our Mailbag section with the view settings for member-only (not visible to the general public or nonmembers), with e-mail notices going out as each is published. One major difference between the two, for those who have not looked, is the list of books appearing near the top along with the request for reviewers.

Hosting Change Coming Soon!
Submitted by Irene Kraus on Mon, 02/13/2012 - 4:26pm
Though it is probably obvious to frequent visitors to our site, we are currently experiencing a number of hosting issues resulting in poor display of content and more. Particularly frustrating is that fresh content does not appear to save properly. A short answer to this issue is that it is indeed saving, just not with all the details needed to make it show up in the area (Blogs, forum, groups, etc.) expected. Each item must be manually altered to correct the entries in the database so it will show up were expected.

Database rollback November 2010
Submitted by Irene Kraus on Fri, 11/19/2010 - 4:18pm
Yesterday there was a serious attempt to breach the security of the site. Based upon log records, it is highly doubtful this person succeeded in gaining control. However, in my investigation of what had occurred a few peculiarities in the normal behaviors of the site were observed. I decided to do a database rollback to the last known good install of 10/25/2010, along with a slew of password changes, as a precautionary step. If anyone did a password change or some other setting within their Profile it will need to be done again.

New Role Description - Blog Fan
Submitted by Irene Kraus on Fri, 10/22/2010 - 6:25pm
I've created a new listing for possible roles people may choose from when they register called Blog Fan. Those choosing this category will have a subscription setup for them so they are notified when new or updated public blog postings are made by anyone on the site. (CEBUG members are normally subscribed to notices for ANY blog posting, public or private.)
Other changes involve the lifting of the restrictions to Ohio residency only. The FAQ on access has been updated to reflect this change. Access to other rights on the site will continue to be limited as they have in the past. I have also altered the overall Profile field to be a checkbox list so as to make the selection of multiple items easier as people register. Anyone with an existing registration on the site needing help with adding a subscription of this type into their own settings should contact me!

Conflicts within Notifications
Submitted by Irene Kraus on Sun, 09/12/2010 - 4:14pm
An issue with the Notifications system was recently detected where notices about new or updated content were not going out as expected. Even worse, the settings within most users accounts for existing subscriptions were obviously messed up. The cause of the problem has been traced to a recent update when integration between the Private Messaging subsystem and Notifications was activated.

CEBUG Member Referrals
Submitted by Irene Kraus on Tue, 08/17/2010 - 6:17pm
Unfortunately the number of bogus registrations attempts on our site continue to rise. (Read more on who may access this site.) Of particular concern are those registrations made by friends and/or family members of those already active here. I have made a slight change in our registration form asking for what we are calling a CEBUG Member Referral code. This is a made up series of words or string of characters - similar to a pass-phrase - we intend to use to identify such persons.

Member Accounts
Submitted by Irene Kraus on Tue, 04/06/2010 - 4:28pm
I have now created all the accounts I have records for of CEBUG Members and a few others that were registered here in the past. There were several that had not visited the site in some time so I decided to send them invitations instead. I did the same thing for all past members of CEBUG who were not active too.
